Microsoft is buying a company for $ 16 billion to deepen artificial intelligence technologies

“Microsoft” said today, Monday, that it will buy artificial intelligence and speech technology “Nuance Communications” for $ 16 billion, as it builds its cloud strategy for healthcare customers and businesses.

The deal comes after the two companies entered into a partnership in 2019 to automate clinical administrative work, as Microsoft tries to expand its leadership in vertical cloud solutions in key industries including healthcare.
“This acquisition puts our technology directly in the doctor-patient loop, which is fundamental to all healthcare services,” said Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, in a meeting with investors.

He added that

The deal will also expand his company’s leadership in artificial intelligence and biometric security.

Microsoft’s bid of $ 56 a share represents a 22.86% premium to the latest Nuance share price.

Known for pioneering speech technology and helping to launch Apple’s virtual assistant, Siri, Nuance is stepping up its efforts in healthcare and artificial intelligence for enterprises.
