A study conducted by Arizona State University said that the planet Theia, which collided with Earth 4.5 billion years ago, not only resulted in the formation of the moon, but also the emergence of huge parts of strange rocks under the surface of the earth.
One of the study’s authors, Qian Yuan, told the “Insider” newspaper, that structures of rocks and foreign minerals appeared under the surface of the earth after the collision of the giant thea, and according to him, these structures are millions of times larger than Mount Everest.
According to the new data of scientists, one of these strange parts is buried under the African continent and the other under the Pacific Ocean. This is evidence that Theia actually struck the Earth, and it opens up a greater scope for knowledge of the history of planet Earth.
These strange structures generate disturbances like the phenomenon of weakening the Earth’s magnetic field, erroneously called the South Atlantic. The researchers note, that these structures are between 1.5 and 3.5% denser than the rest of the Earth’s mantle, and hotter.
The moon was formed from the fragments scattered from the giant collision between the planet Earth and Theia. It is not known yet what happened to the rest of Theia, whether it was destroyed, or whether it has returned to deep space.
Some researchers believe that life resulted on Earth as a result of chemical reactions from the fusion of the nucleus of our planet with the nucleus of Theia and formed a sea of molten dissolved materials. And the new discovery says that these strange iron-rich structures are buried in our mantle.
