Kate Garraway clashes with Alex Salmond as he accuses her of ‘interrupting’ him

Kate Garraway clashed with the former First Minister of Scotland Alex Salmond on Tuesday as he appeared on Good Morning Britain live from Aberdeen.

The mum-of-two was keen to speak to the 66-year-old politician about his 2020 court trial in relation to allegations of sexual assault, and his relationship with Nicola Sturgeon.

However, Mr Salmond clearly only wanted to discuss his new pro-independence party, Alba, and looked rather frustrated as Kate grilled him.

Kate, 53, asked him if he missed current First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, who used to be his deputy and when he last spoke to her.

Pretty much swerving the question, Mr Salmond simply revealed: “Way back, some considerable time ago.”

But Kate did not give up, and continued: “We’ve seen you in a certain light involved in a certain story, do you not have to clear up how you’re going to work with Nicola?”

Clearly fed up with the topic, Alex replied: “The jury was in a year ago and a predominantly female jury acquitted me of all charges in front of a lady judge.”

He went on to add that his new Alba Party has many female members and includes “some of the strongest feminist voices” supporting them.

This still wasn’t enough for Kate to move on from the issue, as she pressed: “But Nicola is on record saying she’s not willing to work with you?”

“Kate, I know you’re in London but we’ve been talking about this in Scotland for two years,” Mr Salmond responded.

“The vast majority of people in Scotland think it’s time to move on. I’ve had to spend the last two years talking about these issues, it’s time to move on to independence.”

He added: “Kate, if you keep interrupting me and the delay on the line, it’s going to be very difficult to conduct the interview! Will you let me ask the question?”

“Okay, I will,” Kate replied.

Amid their awkward exchange, Mr Salmond was left red-faced when the light in the room he was in, switched off and he was left sat in the dark.
