Thailand began today, Thursday, to halve the quarantine period for visitors who received the Coronavirus vaccine.

This is a first step to allow people who have been vaccinated to enter the country without the need for isolation.

The epidemic has destroyed the tourism industry in Thailand, which is a major source of income for these Asian countries, but strict border measures have left the country relatively safe from Corona.

Thai and non-Thai travelers are no longer required to have valid travel documents issued by Thai consulates as of today, said Tani Sangrat, a spokesman for the Thai Foreign Ministry, noting that foreigners still have to show a negative test result.

Sangrat confirmed that the people who have received vaccinations will be allowed to spend seven days in private quarantine hotels, compared to the previous 14 days.

While the unvaccinated have to spend 10 days in quarantine, if they do not arrive from one of 11 countries, all of them in sub-Saharan Africa, in which case they have to spend two full weeks.

Sangrat stated that those who get the vaccine must have certificates approved by the Thai Food and Drug Administration or the World Health Organization.

The country has recorded 28,889 cases of corona, including only 94 deaths.
