Twitter reviews its policies on accounts of world leaders

59

The company “Twitter” announced its intention to review its policies with regard to world leaders and heads of state.

Twitter’s announcement, according to what was reported by the specialized technical site Ingadget, came months after it banned Donald Trump from his microblogging platform.

The new policies will determine how Twitter deals with politicians who break its rules.

Twitter said it wanted to hear the views of its users about the new policies of world leaders who break its rules.

Twitter decided to issue an opinion poll from 19 March to 12 April.

“In general, we want to hear from the public whether they believe world leaders should obey the same rules as others on Twitter,” the company wrote in a blog post.

“And if a world leader violates a rule, what kind of enforcement action is appropriate,” Twitter added.

The company added that it is also consulting with academics and human rights activists on the issue.

Twitter is not the only company grappling with these issues in the wake of Trump, as Facebook is still awaiting a decision from its oversight board on whether or not the former president will be allowed to return to the platform.

The oversight board also plans to address the broader issue of how Facebook handles the accounts of its elected officials, although the company is not required to implement the board’s recommendations.
