Zarif criticizes Johnson over the nuclear program

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif criticized British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, after the latter announced his intention to strengthen his country’s nuclear arsenal.
Zarif wrote on “Twitter:” This is hypocrisy! He is concerned about Iran’s development of its peaceful nuclear program, and at the same time he announces that his country will strengthen its nuclear arsenal. ”

He added, “Unlike Britain and its allies, Iran believes that nuclear weapons and all weapons of mass destruction are brutal and must be eliminated.”

The British government announced its intention to enhance its arsenal of nuclear warheads by more than 40% to maintain its security “in a global environment fraught with more risks, and in the face of new technological threats.”

Britain is also seeking to replace its current nuclear warheads with new ones capable of operating during the period of operation of four new submarines that are being manufactured and will enter service in the early thirties of this century.

Britain previously reduced its nuclear warheads arsenal and in 2010 the government set a maximum limit of 180 nuclear warheads by the mid-2020s.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson earlier canceled this limit and announced an increase in the maximum limit to 260 nuclear warheads.
