Opera glasses drowning Swiss factory in a torrent of requests

After Oprah Winfrey’s fiery interview with Harry and Meghan, which plunged the British royal family into crisis, a question arose widely across social networks about the quality of the anchor’s glasses.

The famous American media drew attention during the interview, which was broadcast on Sunday by the American “CBS” channel, and was followed by about 17 million viewers in the United States and 11 million in Britain, which led to a flood of requests that flooded the brand that manufactured glasses in the Swiss city of Zurich.

The brand, which is based in the small Swiss city of Vandensville on the banks of Lake Zurich, was founded in 1993 by Sven Gotti and produces eyeglasses in small quantities of no more than 10,000 pairs per month, which are sold by independent specialists.

The brand spokesman told AFP that these glasses are manufactured in small workshops in Switzerland and are sold at an average price of 400 to 500 Swiss francs ($ 430 and $ 537).

Oprah’s glasses were specially designed for the interview, and their design bears the title “OR02” signed by Sven Gotti, who met the famous American media with the large assortment of glasses two years ago through one of her favorite opticians in Washington.

“She designed two different glasses for her, but when she saw them, she was so impressed with them that she did not know which one to choose, so she took the two together,” Gotti said.

He pointed out that the American star loves these glasses especially for “their lightness” despite the large size, and she recommended that he make about twenty different pairs of them.

Sven Gotti expressed “some astonishment” at this sudden fame, saying, “She wore glasses of our design in other interviews, with Barack Obama, Lady Gaga and Dolly Parton .. But since this witnessed interview, we have received requests from everywhere.”

Since the interview was shown on Sunday, the brand has been flooded with requests from optometrists who have witnessed an influx of their stores from customers, especially in the United States and Britain, to ask where they can buy these glasses.

The Swiss factory, which employs about 30 people, in Vadensville, will have to redouble its efforts to meet this great demand.
