On Monday, the European Union launched legal measures against Britain for violating the “Brexit” agreement.
The Union accuses the United Kingdom of violating the protocol on Northern Ireland and condemns the delay of some customs controls.
The European Commission announced that it had begun two measures to violate the Brexit agreement against the United Kingdom, after London announced a unilateral postponement of some customs controls in Northern Ireland.
Brussels sent an official notification to London of its breach of the protocol on the island of Ireland, contained in the withdrawal treaty signed at the end of 2019.
Deputy Commissioner Marus Sivkovic said that he had sent a “political message” to David Frost, who is in charge of relations with Brussels in the British government, calling on the United Kingdom to withdraw from this declaration.
We agreed IE/NI Protocol together, as the only way to protect Good Friday (Belfast) Agreement. Bound to implement it together. Unilateral action undermines trust.
🇪🇺 committed to making Protocol work for all. I invite 🇬🇧 to return to collaborative track https://t.co/PsL7e8ZUvF
