A billion-year-old meteorite found in the Sahara Desert

Researchers said that the initial planet that may have spawned the meteor in question in this post was either shattered in a collision with some other rocky object or was absorbed by another planet eons ago.

It may be an ancient meteor discovered in the Sahara Desert, according to Life Yines reports.

Scientists have proven that the meteorite, formed through a volcanic process, indicates that it may have been part of the crust of an early planet.

Also, the scientific team, led by geochemist Jean-Alex Barratt of the University of Western Brittany, determined that “the radioactive decay of isotopes of aluminum and magnesium crystallized about 4.565 billion years ago”.

The scientists wrote: “This meteorite is the oldest volcanic rocks that have been analyzed and covered the oldest protoplanets.”

The scientists added, according to Live Science, that “remnants of the primitive Andean crust are not only rare in the meteorite record, but are also rare today in the asteroid belt.”
