Velvet shoes owned by former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill sold at auction for 40,000 pounds ($ 55,000).
Bellmans Auctions displayed the 1950s blue velvet shoe with Churchill’s initials (WSC), and a special brandy cup that also bears the letters of the Churchill name for more than £ 18,000.
Churchill was photographed wearing shoes regularly during his second term as prime minister from 1951 to 1955.
“Churchill continues to be held in high esteem around the world, and we have received interest from both the media and buyers from all over the world,” said Julian Dinin, auctioneer.
The two pieces were first sold by the Churchill family at Sotheby’s in July 1998.
