Araghchi: The possibility of canceling the nuclear agreement completely is very great if the United States does not return to it
The Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Abbas Araghchi, confirmed that the possibility of canceling the nuclear agreement completely is very great if the United States does not return to it.
Araghchi said in an exclusive interview with “Sputnik” today, Thursday, “The possibility of completely canceling the nuclear agreement is very great in the event that the United States does not return to it, as the issue is as clear as the sun. We will remain in the agreement as long as we have interests in it, and on the day it will not be.” We have any benefit in the nuclear agreement, as it certainly will not continue. ”
He added, “If the nuclear agreement remains alive, we are committed to what we pledged to do, and we will not do anything that violates the agreement, even if there is a need for that in the country.”
He stressed that if the United States did not return to the nuclear agreement, Tehran would take the appropriate decision regarding the percentage of uranium enrichment according to Iran’s need at the time, and if we see a need for enrichment, we will do so at any level.
The Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister added: “If the United States does not return to the nuclear agreement, it will be up to Iran, the three European countries, Russia and China to continue the agreement or not.”
Regarding the debate over who should take the first step to return to the nuclear agreement, Iran or the United States, the Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Political Affairs said: “Our issue now is not who will take the first step, but rather the most important thing is that the United States withdrew from the agreement and it must return. It must fulfill its obligations. ”
Araghchi pointed out that “the Americans should not engage in political games and pressure and not look at the issue with this mentality, and in our opinion, returning to the nuclear agreement can be done easily.”
“We are focusing at the present time on the agreement between the International Atomic Energy Agency and Iran as an opportunity and how the Americans can take advantage of this opportunity to lift the sanctions and return to the nuclear deal,” he added.
