Kia has warned its customers about a problem with some of its car models that could cause a disaster.
The company recalled about 380 thousand cars in the United States, including the four-wheel-drive Sportage and the Cadenza, due to a problem that could cause a fire in them.
Kia called on car owners to keep their vehicles parked outside and away from their homes, buildings or surrounding vehicles to prevent any possible fire from spreading, according to CNN.
The problem concerns some models from 2017 through 2021 from “Sportage” and some models from 2017 to 2019 “Cadenza” cars that are not equipped with the intelligent cruise control system.
The possibility of a fire in these two models is due to the fact that some electronic circuits under the hood of the summoned cars can develop a short circuit that leads to an increase in temperature, which may lead to a fire, according to documents published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on its website.
According to a Kia statement, the owners of the cars participating in the recall will be notified by mail, starting April 30th.
Car owners can find out if their vehicles are included in the recall by visiting the safercar.gov website and entering the 17-digit vehicle identification number.
The company will replace the valves to prevent too much power from flowing to the affected circuit boards, and in some cases the vehicle’s software will be updated, without charging customers for repairs.
