And a newspaper affiliated with the University of California published a detailed article in which it talked about the story of the discovery of one of the strangest mummies in the world discovered in Egypt.

According to the “Berkeley” magazine of the University of California, the events of the story took place in 1899, when archaeologists, Arthur Hunt and Bernard Grenville, were carrying out an expedition to northern Egypt, specifically in an ancient town called Tibet. (Umm Al-Baragat), where the team was searching for ancient human mummies, with funding from the University of California, USA.

Mummy shock scientists

The magazine pointed out that while archaeologists and auxiliary working teams were excavating the cemeteries scattered in the city, they found human mummies, but they also found other mummies, which they did not expect to find, which are the mummies of strange crocodiles.

But the magazine noted that the scientists and working groups, were not enthusiastic at the beginning of the importance of the strange discovery, and considered that these reptiles are a “nuisance” and impede their research goal.

In the Department of Near Eastern Studies at the University of California, Rita Lucarelli told some details of the exploration, as she revealed in a radio interview published in the magazine a very interesting story.

The scientist indicated that during the excavation of mummies, the workers found another crocodile mummy, which made the team extremely frustrated, which made one of the scientists take the mummy and throw it away from the excavation site, but the worker was shocked when the mummy “opened” and revealed what was inside.

According to the account that the scientist transmitted, the crocodile mummy was opened and a treasure trove of papyrus manuscripts written by Egyptians appeared thousands of years ago.

“Suddenly, archaeologists were interested in crocodile mummies, only for the papyrus. So the team began to open the mummies, remove the papyrus, and then get rid of the crocodiles.”

The scientist says that the University Museum “Hearst” contains up to 17 thousand ancient Egyptian artifacts from various sites, including from that expedition, it is the largest Egyptian collection in North America. Among the artifacts are 19 crocodile mummies and mummy parts.
