The National Emergency Management issued a tsunami warning, after an 8.1-magnitude earthquake shook the Kermadyk Islands Friday morning.
Sirens were ringing on the North Island of New Zealand in the town of Baihia. Residents have been instructed to search for higher ground.
The quake struck 998 km off two major islands in New Zealand, and was followed by two smaller earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.4 and 7.3.
