Pope condemns “terrorism that offends religion”

The Pope of the Catholic Church, Francis II, denounced “terrorism that offends religion”, while participating in a prayer for religions in the historic city of Ur in Iraq, calling for “prayer for the respect of freedom of conscience and religious freedom.”

The Pope is visiting Iraq on the first visit of the head of the Catholic Church to this country torn by conflicts and wars.

On Saturday, Francis II met with one of the most important Shiite scholars in the world, Ali al-Sistani, after he visited him at his home in Najaf.
