On Friday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan participated in the funeral services for the 11 soldiers who were killed in the crash of their military helicopter on Thursday.

Turkish President Erdogan participated in the funeral prayer that was held after the Friday prayers, at the Ahmed Hamdi Akski Mosque, in the capital, Ankara.

In his speech after the funeral prayer, “President Erdogan wished from God mercy to the victims of the painful accident, and patience and comfort for their families,” according to the Anadolu Agency.

The Turkish president cited the noble verse: “Do not say to whomever kills in the path of God are dead, but alive, but you do not feel.”

He also offered condolences to the families of the dead who participated in the ceremony.

On Thursday, the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced that a helicopter belonging to the Land Forces Command had crashed during its flight from Bingol state to Bitlis, killing 11 soldiers, and wounding two others, who are still being treated in hospital, and they are in stable condition.

The Turkish Defense Minister, Hulusi Akar, attributed the incident, based on preliminary information and eyewitnesses, to “the weather conditions that changed suddenly.”
