Earlier in the day, the French judiciary sentenced Sarkozy to 3 years in prison, including one year in force, on charges of corruption and abuse of influence in the so-called “wiretapping” case. The former French president was found guilty of pledging to help a former judge get a job in Monaco in exchange for secret information about an investigation that targeted him, with the help of a telephone line registered in Paul Bismuth.
