The husband of the Queen of Britain is hospitalized

49

The British Royal Buckingham Palace announced today, Wednesday, that the Queen’s husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was taken to hospital as a “precaution” after he felt unwell.

A palace spokesman said that the 99-year-old prince “is expected to stay in hospital for a few days of observation and rest.” He was taken to hospital on the advice of his doctor, and the spokesman added that he was in good spirits.

A royal source said that Prince Philip did not have a coronavirus-related illness and was hospitalized without assistance on Tuesday evening. The source added that he traveled there by car and that it was not an emergency entry permit.

For his part, a spokesman for 10 Downing Street said: “The prime minister sends his best wishes to the Duke of Edinburgh while he spends a few days of rest in the hospital.”

Prince Philip retired from public office in 2017 and rarely appears in public. He was last seen publicly in July 2020 when he transferred his role as Colonel-General of the Royal Infantry Division of the British Army The Rifles to Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, daughter-in-law, Crown Prince Charles.

The Duke of Edinburgh has been staying with the Queen at Windsor Castle since the coronavirus restrictions were first imposed last year.
