With one of the strangest accusations that the Lebanese recently heard, the Lebanese security forces summoned the activist and dentist Rami Feng, for investigation at the Tal police station in Tripoli, due to the distribution of food and aid to the needy and protesters in the city.
This step sparked astonishment and anger, especially as the country is going through its worst economic and social crises, in which the scene of distributing aid and food to the poor in public squares has become a daily routine, according to a report published by the Al-Hurra website.
Continuous suppression
This paradox was seized by the Lebanese as a new entry point for repression by the Lebanese authorities against civilian activists, raising suspicions around them and submitting them to security summons in order to intimidate them and push them to retreat from their activities, according to what they expressed in messages of support that they broadcast on social media in solidarity with Dr. Feng, and they put themselves with him on charges. The same, documenting their distribution of food to the needy and calling on the state to arrest and investigate them as well.
The symbolic steps translated into a move on the ground in front of the Al-Tal police station in Tripoli, and the presence of Feng accompanied the investigation Thursday morning, accompanied by a delegation that included representatives of the bar associations and dentistsAnd the municipality of Tripoli, where dozens of friends and solidarity activists gathered, chanting slogans condemning the security services ‘summons to activists and demanding that they investigate the cases required of them, such as the bombing of the Beirut port and the seizure of citizens’ money in banks and the corrupt in the state.
from where?
Feng tells Al-Hurra website what happened to him during the investigation, where “they asked me if I was in the picture with them distributing food at 4 pm on January 31 in Al-Nour Square, so I told them this is true. They asked about the source of funding for this aid, I answered that they are Lebanese. From different Lebanese lands and from all sects they provide aid, so they stopped me from speaking and said we do not want to know more than that. I offered to check the list of donations therein, so they refused and contented themselves with my words. ”
Feng added, “I went out and told them that I was heading to the Tabbaneh region, where we have the” Shabab al-Khair “kitchen in which we prepare and prepare meals in order to continue distributing them to the needy, which is something we have been doing since the beginning of the revolution,Personally, I have reached the age of 55, and since the age of 17 I have been working in the humanitarian field, relief and aid for the displaced and the needy. ”
