The United Nations placed a Saudi high school student on the honor list, after discovering a serious security vulnerability in its location.

The Saudi Al-Ikhbariya channel said in a televised report that people broke into the United Nations website and gained access to usernames and passwords.

She added that the student, Nawaf Al-Mutairi, contacted the UN organization and informed it of discovering this loophole to remedy it.

In his honor, the United Nations placed Al-Mutairi on its honor list on its website.

The channel indicated that the Saudi student had previously won a medal from the Saudi Federation for Cybersecurity for his contribution to discovering several loopholes.

Al-Mutairi told the channel that his story began with the discovery of the vulnerabilities when his device was hacked in 2016, at which time he began to identify ways to protect against intrusions, and since that time he has devoted a large part of his strength to studying vulnerabilities in addition to software.

He explained that the loophole that he discovered on the United Nations website is classified internationally as “high risk”.
