Israel includes Lockheed Martin CH53K helicopters to its fleet

The Israeli Defense Ministry said today, Thursday, that it has chosen the Lockheed Martin heavy helicopter “CH-53K” as its new transport aircraft in this class.

Defense Minister Benny Gantz said the decision was “an important step” in enhancing the capabilities of the military and necessary “for its ability to carry out a multitude of tasks.”

“All details, including the required number of aircraft, will be presented to the Ministerial Procurement Committee for approval as soon as possible,” the minister added.

The decision was made after a thorough examination of the various alternatives in terms of engineering, technology and maintenance.
