3 Herbal Hair Loss Solutions Supported With Evidence!

40

Three natural supplements have been shown to prevent the causes of androgenic alopecia, also known as pattern baldness.

Androgenic alopecia is one of the main causes of hair loss. According to Harvard Health, androgenic alopecia involves the action of hormones called androgens, which are essential for normal male sexual development and have other important functions in both sexes, including sex drive and hair growth regulation.

Natural products are proven to penetrate their defenses, and here are 3 solutions like this:

Pumpkin seed oil

Pumpkin seed oil contains phytosterols – plant compounds are known to inhibit 5α-Reductase, according to research.

This is important because the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT) – the sexual steroid that causes hair loss.

One study compared the effects of taking 400 mg of pumpkin seed oil by mouth daily, with a placebo for 24 weeks, in 76 patients with androgenic alopecia.
The researchers found a 40% increase in hair count versus 10% for a placebo, and improved satisfaction scores that were also reported by patients.

Rosemary oil

It is derived from an evergreen aromatic herb, and it was shown to compete with minoxidil in one study, and it is one of the main pharmaceutical treatments used to treat androgenetic alopecia.

In the trial, 100 patients with androgenic alopecia were asked to either use a daily rosemary oil rinse or take minoxidil.

The two groups showed a significant increase in the number of hairs at six months.Rosemary oil appears to be a safe over-the-counter alternative for androgenetic alopecia, and the researchers concluded that the results of this study deserve more research.

Saw Palmetto

It is extracted from the berry of the Saw Palmetto.

Like pumpkin seed oil, the extract is believed to prevent the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme from converting into testosterone and DHT.

A study was conducted to evaluate the effect of hair growth of Saw Palmetto serum topical applied for four weeks, and lotion applied for 24 weeks, in 50 men with androgenic alopecia.

The researchers found that the Saw Palmetto formula showed an increase in final hair counts over 12 and 24 weeks.
