The CIA Director Candidate is calling for vigilance in dealing with Russia and China

US President Joe Biden’s candidate for director of the Central Intelligence Agency, William Burns, called for “vigilance” in dealing with “Russian and Chinese intelligence activity.”

Burns said during a hearing in the US Senate, today, Wednesday: “We must pay special attention to the capabilities of our opponents, whether it is Russian intelligence … or Chinese.”

And he stressed that “it is not permissible to underestimate its capabilities, and it is making many efforts to achieve technological development, and we see this also by smaller intelligence, such as Iran or another.”

He added, “It is important to avoid underestimating their capabilities in our assessments, and we must learn where we can.”

It is noteworthy that William Burns was Deputy Secretary of State in the administration of former President Barack Obama in 2011-2014, and ambassador of the United States to Russia during the period between 2005 and 2008, and in Jordan from 1998 to 2004, as well as Assistant Secretary of State for Middle Eastern Affairs in 2001-2005 .
