Paris confirms French detention in Iran since May 2020

On Wednesday, the French Foreign Ministry confirmed the arrest of a French citizen in Iran. The French magazine “Le Point” said that he had been detained without explanation since May 2020.

The ministry said in a statement that the detainee “is being protected and has received consular visits … and our embassy in Tehran maintains regular contact with him.”

It is noteworthy that the relationship between Paris and Tehran is experiencing tension, since the researcher Fariba Adelkhah, who holds dual French and Iranian nationalities, was imprisoned in Tehran since June 2019.
