The Ukrainian Parliament identifies those responsible for the deaths during the “Dignity Revolution” events

The Ukrainian Supreme Council (Parliament) adopted a resolution identifying those responsible for the deaths of human beings and the loss of part of the country’s territory during the events of the years 2013 and 2014.

The text of the resolution prepared last year, for which 295 deputies voted today, Wednesday, stated that former President Viktor Yanukovych “usurped power,” which led to undermining Ukraine’s security foundations and defense capabilities, as well as violations of human rights and freedoms.

The text praised the “revolution of dignity”, which is the official designation for the protest demonstrations in Kiev (especially in the “Independence Square” in the city center) and the confrontations between the protesters and the authority, indicating that those responsible for crimes in the “European field” must be brought before the courts.

The document held the police and authorities responsible for the casualties during these events that ended with the ouster of President Yanukovych in February 2014.

The text of the resolution also stated that the policy of Yanukovych and his government played a major role in the “occupation” of the Crimea and the Donbas region (southeastern Ukraine) by Russia,

In March 2014, the Crimea peninsula came under Russian sovereignty based on the results of a popular referendum. In Donbas, residents of some Russian-speaking regions refused to recognize the new Ukrainian authorities, which led to the emergence of “two popular republics” on part of the territory of Donetsk and Lugansk provinces, declaring their independence from Kiev unilaterally. The new Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation against them in an attempt to regain these lands, which resulted in the outbreak of an armed conflict in the region.

Ukraine accused Russia of providing direct military support to “separatists” and “occupying” part of Donbas, which Moscow denies, insisting that the Ukrainian conflict is internal.
