Six people were killed in a fire at a gold mine in eastern China

Six people were killed after a fire broke out in a gold mine in eastern Shandong Province, local authorities said Wednesday.

The fire broke out at about 6 a.m. while workers were carrying out maintenance work on the equipment at the “Caojiaawa” gold mine in Chaoyuan City, according to sources with the Chaoyuan Municipal Government.

Ten workers were immediately trapped under the shaft due to the fire. Four others were rescued and taken to hospital for medical treatment.

And sent nearly 200 people on the rescue mission, according to the authorities.
