Three European countries call on Iran to stop production of metallic uranium and to return to abide by its obligations

Today, Friday, France, Germany and Britain called on Iran to immediately halt production of metallic uranium and to return to full compliance with its commitments in accordance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, saying that Iran’s “breaches” of its pledges would lead to obstruction of diplomacy and thus impede the implementation of the objectives of the nuclear agreement.The three countries ’statement read:“ We, the governments of France, Germany and the United Kingdom, have followed with great concern the recent assertion by the International Atomic Energy Agency regarding Iran’s production of uranium metal in violation of the JCPOA, as according to the JCPOA, Iran is committed not to Engaging in the production or possession of uranium mineral or conducting research and development in uranium mining for a period of 15 years.

The three countries also reaffirmed that Iran has no civil justification for these activities, which are an essential step in developing a nuclear weapon.

The statement called on Iran to immediately stop these activities, and not to take any new steps inconsistent with its nuclear program, noting that with this escalation, Iran is wasting the opportunity to renew diplomacy to fully achieve the goals of the JCPOA.
