New York (Reuters):
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said on Wednesday that he hoped the Quartet of Middle East mediators would meet again in the next “few weeks”, with a new president now in the White House.
Reuters reported that the Quartet, which includes the United States, Russia, the European Union and the United Nations, has not met since September 2018.
“The truth is that we had no way of any form of peace negotiations. The Israelis and the Palestinians were not talking to each other,” Guterres added during an interview broadcast by The Washington Post.
