The study included participants who were randomly assigned to three groups of similar body weight, body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference.

During the 12-week treatment period, the subjects in each group drank 500ml per day of a beverage containing either vinegar or a placebo.

Body weight, body mass index, visceral fat area and waist circumference, and blood triglyceride levels were significantly lower in the two vinegar groups compared to the placebo group.

The study concluded that consuming vinegar daily may be beneficial in preventing metabolic syndrome by reducing obesity.

It is usually recommended to drink apple cider vinegar 20 minutes before a meal. This is because it can reduce your appetite, and because it delays stomach emptying, it helps you feel full for longer.

When eaten before a heavy carbohydrate meal that contains lots of pasta or potatoes, vinegar can slow the rate of stomach emptying in addition to preventing large sugar spikes.
