Naples recover the stolen “Salvatore Mundi” painting!

47

Italian police recovered a copy of the painting “Salvatore Mundi”, after it was stolen from a museum in Naples, which was painted by the international artist, Leonardo Da Vinci, and its original painting is considered one of the most expensive paintings in the world.

This artwork, possibly painted by a Renaissance “master” student, was found in the apartment of a 36-year-old citizen who had been stopped on suspicion of receiving stolen goods.

While the police have not specified when the painting was stolen, the Neapolitan Museum recently reported having in business in January 2020, when it was returned from Rome.

The image was modeled after Leonardo’s famous depiction of Christ, with one hand raised to the blessing, and the other holding a crystal ball, as numerous copies of the work were made during the artist’s life by his students and assistants.

Although it is not known who created this particular “Salvatore Mundi” painting, it is believed that it was painted at the end of 1510, by someone from the artist’s workshop.

For his part, the owner of the painting, the San Domenico Maggiore Museum in Naples, said on its website that there were “several hypotheses” about the identity of the painter, and the “most convincing” theory was attributed to Leonardo’s student, Girolamo Alebrandi, who drew it.
