Istanbul – (Reuters):
The Turkish Information and Communication Technology Authority imposed a ban on ads on Twitter, Periscope and Pinterest under a new social media law, according to decisions published in the country’s official gazette on Tuesday.
The law requires that the companies owning social media sites appoint local representatives in Turkey. Critics say the law will silence dissent. On Monday, Facebook joined other companies in announcing its intention to appoint a representative in Turkey to avoid the ban.
