For the first time in half a century … a shark devours a man in the “river”

On Thursday, a shark attacked a man swimming in the Swan River (Swan River) in the Australian city of Perth, nibbling his thigh in the first such attack in the river since 1969.

Officials suggested that the man was attacked by a bull shark, measuring between two and three meters, while he was swimming in the morning off the coast of the Blackwall Rich Reserve in Perth.

Reuters quoted a spokeswoman for the local ambulance service as saying that the man had been taken to the Royal Perth Hospital in critical condition.

And local media reported that the man is in his fifties and is in stable condition.

And the city of Perth in Western Australia and its coasts is famous for the spread of great white sharks, and has seen several attacks from these fish. In recent weeks, the authorities closed some beaches due to the increased appearance of sharks in the area.

Shark attacks are rare in the Swan River, which flows into the ocean at the port city of Fremontle, south of Perth. The last such attack in the region was in 1969.
