The number of shoppers in Britain decreased by 27.1% within a week due to the impact of the closure

London – (Reuters):
Spring-Board Research said, Monday, that the number of shoppers in stores, malls and other outlets across Britain fell 27.1 percent last week, due to the impact of new measures aimed at stopping the spread of Covid-19.

This came against the backdrop of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s decision, last Monday, to implement a new comprehensive lockdown in England to contain the growing number of Coronavirus infections at rates that may not be absorbed by some parts of the health system.

Spring-Board said the number of shoppers across Britain was down 35 percent compared to the previous week in malls, 26 percent on highways, and 21.3 percent at retail chain complexes outside cities.

On an annual basis, UK retail visitor rates were 63.8 per cent lower compared to the same week last year, it added.
