Three children were killed in a bomb explosion they were having fun with in Pakistan

Peshawar – (Reuters):
On Wednesday, three children were killed and two others were injured, when a bomb they found in a field in northwestern Pakistan exploded, officials said.

Four brothers and a neighbor were having fun when they found the rusty bomb near a village on the outskirts of the northwestern city of Peshawar.

Incidents related to weapons remnants are frequent in northwest Pakistan. Old cannons, artillery shells and other remnants of munitions are frequently smuggled into the country from Afghanistan, some dating back to the Soviet war in the 1980s.

The region was at one point a center of anti-Taliban activities. Locals formed militias to fight the rebels. Last year, five people were killed when a scrap metal worker tried to recycle an old mortar shell that exploded when dealing with it.
