The Catalan regional government has given the green light to the organizers of the Spanish Grand Prix in the Formula 1 World Championship for cars, to agree to renew the race contract for next year.

The race on May 9 at Circuit de Catalina was included in the provisional schedule for next year’s 23-race championship.

The territorial government said in a statement that it had allowed the ring officials to sign a new contract.

“The signing of the contract guarantees the celebration of the 31st successive edition of the race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalonia,” the statement added. “The Formula 1 Grand Prix of Spain is one of the factors that contribute to strengthening Catalonia’s position in the world in the fields of tourism and cars.”
