Kate Garraway has told how Sir Elton John has reached out to her amid her husband’s lengthy coronavirus battle, and how she plays his songs to her hubby in hospital.
The Good Morning Britain star’s husband Derek Draper fell ill in March and has remained in hospital since then.
According to The Sun, the Rocket Man singer has been supporting the TV star during the traumatic time.
Garraway, 53, told Woman & Home magazine: “One of the artists that we play a lot on Smooth is Sir Elton John.”
The presenter said she was a big fan of the singer’s Step Into Christmas, adding: “And it feels particularly special this year because he’s been so personally kind to me about the situation with Derek and we’ve been playing Elton’s music to Derek while he’s been in hospital.”
The presenter previously revealed that Sir Elton called her when Draper fell ill and asked what he could do to help her.
She said on GMB: “Elton John contacted me.
“It was so strange, he was like, ‘Hi Kate, it’s Elton.’
“I was like ‘Elton… John?’
“It’s so strange, we do have a mutual friend, which I didn’t know about.
“And because of all the work he does with the AIDS Foundation he was like, ‘What can I do to help? I know a bit about antiviral stuff. And I’m on board, I’m on board, I’ll try to help’.”
Garraway and Draper have been married for 15 years and have two children together – daughter Darcey, 14, and son Billy, 11.
The TV star regularly updates GMB viewers on Draper’s progress and recently revealed that he still goes through some “worrying downs”.
She told fellow presenter Susanna Reid: “The problem is, I feel like I’m just boring everyone to death really because it ends up with the same thing, which is stable but actually in between when I’m not talking to you there are big ups and big downs.
“Not big ups really, small improvements and worrying downs as well.”
