The Supermodels Documentary is Coming to Apple TV+, Starring the Runway Icons of the ’90s

On the heels of the release of our new podcast, In Vogue: The 1990s, a major look back at the moment when “supers” ruled the runways is coming to the small screen. Today, Apple TV Plus announced the upcoming release of a new documentary series, The Supermodels, directed by Barbara Kopple and produced by Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Documentaries. Details around the new series are still pretty scant, but according to Variety, The Supermodels will follow the rise of Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, and Cindy Crawford during the late 1980s through the 1990s. The show promises to be a fashion feast of epic proportions, one that provides an intimate look into what it was like to be the most famous and well-dressed women in the world—and the stars of every runway imaginable from New York to Paris.

According to Instagram posts shared today by Turlington, Campbell, Evangelista, and Crawford, it will also provide insight into their individual journeys to stardom and the close-knit friendships they formed backstage at fashion shows, on red carpets, and at parties. As Turlington wrote on her post, “I am looking forward to looking back on this unprecedented time in fashion with these incredible women whom I have grown up with.” Campbell shared a similar sentiment and also added in her caption that she hopes their “journey seen in the docuseries will encourage, motivate, and inspire young people around the world.”
